An Old Frontier Made New

Founded in 1939 by the Alexander family, Cataloochee Ranch has been a rustic mountain getaway for generations. Set on the edge of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the upscale family-owned resort in sprawling grounds is 1.2 miles from the Cataloochee Ski Area. Today the property consists of 685 acres, much of which is held in conservation easement.

Cataloochee Ranch was born in an era when horses weren’t just a fun activity. When skies were still starry and family adventures might actually be adventures. The storied property was the first overnight destination established to serve tourists visiting the (then) new Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It was a true mountaintop getaway known for breathtaking views— and it still is.
